The Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC), located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, Georgia, is the fourth-largest convention center in the United States. At 1.4 million square feet, the GWCC sees over a million visitors each year. It sits on International Bouvelard, next to other major Atlanta landmarks, including Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Dome, CNN Center, and Philips Arena, and is easily accessed by public transportation.
The GWCC opened its doors in 1976, as the first state-owned convention center in the country. It was designed by Atlanta-based architects Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback, and Associates. Made up of three separate buildings, the convention center features twelve exhibit halls, 105 meeting rooms, an auditorium, and two ballrooms. It also features a number of amenities for guests, including FedEx Kinko's office, Starbucks coffee shops, a gift shop, internet access, telephone service, full IT management, a concierge desk, food court and a restaurant.
The GWCC has served the state of Georgia, the Southeast, the United States and even the entire world over the last few decades. During the 1996 Olympic, it was host to a number of sports, including table tennis, weightlifting, wrestling, fending, handball, and judo. In 2001, President George W. Bush made a post-September 11th speech to a crowd of politicians and first responders. And every year, the SEC Football Fanfare is held at the GWCC to accompany the SEC Championship game.
